Summary
The Compression Systems Engineer is responsible for maintaining the safe operation and reliability of Certarus CNG fleet equipment by applying standard engineering principles, theories, concepts, and techniques. Providing solutions to a variety of compressors and compression-related systems.

Including troubleshooting engine and compressor-related issues, that develop during operation, maintenance repair, and/or turnarounds, as well as performing root cause failure analysis and making recommendations for equipment that improve reliability.

Schedule:
  • This position follows normal business hours and ready to support 24-hour operations support.
  • Frequent travel to Certarus shops, field location and customer locations in Canada and the US is required – up to 50%.
  • We support a hybrid work environment consisting of flexible remote and in-person collaboration.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Promote and drive a proactive and positive HSE culture within Certarus. Collaborate with HSE and field operations teams on the development of standardized work procedures (SWP).
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices such as API, ASME, and electrical codes.
  • Provide technical support to maintenance and operations to increase equipment operability and reliability that reduce maintenance costs.
  • Conduct diagnostics and troubleshooting: Utilize engineering expertise to identify and resolve issues related to rotating compressors, chillers, and gas fill post panels, including mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Maintenance: Track trends by utilizing SCADA and performance runs to ensure that the equipment operates at peak efficiency and meets performance standards.
  • Apply standard engineering principles, theories, concepts, troubleshooting, scope development, and other techniques to provide solutions to a variety of rotating equipment problems.
  • Participate in hazard safety and operability studies and work to resolve engineering action items.
  • Utilize vibration, pressure, temperature, and process data to troubleshoot and predict impending failures of rotating equipment to avoid secondary damage.
  • Establish guidelines for and monitor the performance of the preventative maintenance programs.
  • Responsible for project execution of compression retrofits while maintaining documentation and capturing final design as-builts with the collaboration of the design team.
  • Respond to and support compression systems daily basis as needed (field support, equipment testing, troubleshooting, engineering processes, issue identification, equipment failure analysis, equipment repair scopes and capital projects).
  • Assist with compression system start-ups and field equipment commissioning.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations teams to enhance product design, reliability, and performance based on field feedback and technical insights.
  • Identify improvement ideas to improve operational performance, increase availability, and/or reduce costs.
  • Drive management of change (MOCs, EB, SB) initiatives across the fleet, including planning, execution, and execution support. 
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 1 to 3 years minimum experience in CNG experience with rotating equipment, especially engines, pumps, motors, turbines, PLC control systems, electrical design systems, reciprocating compressors, and compressor packaging design
  • Experience with controls, oil and gas services, piping systems, or compressed gases is strongly preferred.
  • Track record in driving equipment reliability improvements related to maintenance.
  • Team player with problem-solving ability, business acumen, effective time management, and organizational skills to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Required to travel outside of designated territory to work in various weather conditions and willing to spend long days in remote terrain. Ability to travel between CAN and the US.
  • Valid Driver’s license and passport required, travel for work (>50%).
